AI generated music is being used to spread hate, typically localized to the United States, has now seeped into Europe. There is a “disturbing trend” of right-wing AI-generated songs spreading hate speech against immigrants. AI-generated earworms are spreading hateful rhetoric on Spotify, TikTok, and anywhere else you consume music online.
How is AI music getting onto these platforms anyway, let alone hate music? Through your distributor. Many of the biggest distributors are so free in their quality checking that an unbelievable amount of fraudulent accounts have been created, and questionable, if not fraudulent or even downright nefarious content, is being uploaded to the streaming services though these distribution platforms.
If you are unsure of what I am talking about then have a look at this video. Basically it shows you how fraudsters fraud the systems, how easy it is to make a distribution account and upload whatever. So, nasty people not only flood the streaming platforms with fraudulent or AI music, but also pretty much anything their hate desires.
Sure the streaming platforms may eventually take down the degenerate generated AI music, but by then the damage has already been done. So why do they let this content go live anyway? Well if it generates streams it generates royalties and you can be sure that they will be withholding any royalties from any suspect releases or fraudulent activity. Cha-ching! $$$
Even though steps are being taken to prevent more AI content from being uploaded for monetization, people have other motives, mainly to collect listeners and followers. According to Deezer: 28% of all music delivered to streaming is now fully AI-generated. What? Now real human independent music is competing with not only the top 1% who take 80% of all the royalties, but also AI music holding more than a quarter of the new streaming catalog, which the streaming services don’t even have to pay.
AI music may get to the streaming platforms but many, like Deezer, won’t pay for any streamed music that turns out to be AI. Even China has put their foot down and won’t pay for any AI music streamed on their platforms. Musicinfo, as a distributor, is keeping AI music off its distribution channels, we feel it is essential to keep real genuine music created from the hearts of flesh and blood separate from Ai music. It won’t be long that it will be the AI itself who is the uploading its own AI generated music. We’ve got to draw a line now before it becomes too blurred.
How can you be sure you are not supporting AI music getting distributed? Make sure that your distributor is not uploading AI generated music. How do you do that? Well, it may not be completely apparent from their front page or terms, but if they say upfront that they already allow in a little AI, you can be sure there is a heck of a lot more coming in through their back door. Make the switch to a distributor who supports flesh and blood musicians 100% and does not accept any AI content and join or create your own Anti-AI Music Movement.
